Most patients recieve an adult prophy which is a normal cleaning. With an excess of plaque and calculus buildup, we recommend that some patients receive a Scaling and Root Planning procedure (also called a deep cleaning). A deep cleaning is a more aggressive cleaning and is typically performed under local anesthetic. Because anasthetic is needed for this procedure, a full mouth deep cleaning is divided into two visits to avoid numbing the entire mouth.
